H1z2z2-k Solar Cable Construction And Specifications

A solar cable consists of several stranded wires. 4mm solar cable - the first choice for solar panels - consists of several wires that together transmit solar energy from the panel to the battery, inverter and connected devices and appliances. Most 4mm solar cables have 2-5 wires set up in the protective cover. There are many types of solar cables, the most popular are DC solar cables, DC main cables and AC connection cables.

Solar Cable Classification

DC solar cables: DC cables are available in string and modular. Both are compatible with solar panels and can connect a 4mm DC PV cable to the inverter by connecting the negative and positive leads. While 4mm cables are popular, 6mm and 2.5mm cables are also available. The size of the solar panel determines what cable should be used.

The insulation provides protection for the wires, and they are color-coded for easy identification (blue with no charge, red with positive charge). String cables can be connected directly to the inverter, or through an AC connection, a DC combiner box or node string technology. Some solar panels have DC cables built into them.

Main DC cables: These cables connect the negative and positive conductors of the junction box to the inverter. 2mm, 4mm and 6mm cables are available in single or double conductors. Twin conductor cables are best suited for generator boxes and/or inverters. Single core is ideal for various solar panel installations.

AC connecting cables: The AC connecting cables connect the PV modules to the grid and safety mechanisms. The 5-conductor AC connection is designed for small photovoltaic systems connected to three-phase inverters. Solar cables are used for photovoltaic power generation, solar cables are designed to be UV resistant, weather resistant, and can be used in indoor and outdoor applications over a wide temperature range.

Composition and insulation of solar cables

The H1Z2Z2-K solar cable is double insulated with cross-linked polyolefin (XLPO). Compared with ordinary power cable insulation materials such as PVC and XLPE, XLPO has higher rated temperature -40°C to 120°C, XLPO insulation material has excellent UV resistance, excellent flame retardancy, good chemical resistance and Good durability. In addition, XLPO is halogen-free and will not release toxic gases in the event of fire.

Using low-quality solar cables can shorten the lifespan of the entire solar PV installation, while high-quality solar cables can prevent premature aging processes when installed with proper guidance. To ensure the quality of the solar cables, Kuka Cable H1Z2Z2-K solar cables are manufactured according to EN 50618 and certified by TÜV Rheinland.

EN 50618:2014 conducts a series of rigorous tests on cables used in photovoltaic systems, including electrical performance testing, structural and dimensional testing, insulation and sheathing material testing, cold shock and cold bending testing, ozone resistance testing, weather/UV Jacket Resistance Test, Dynamic Penetration Test, Damp Heat Test, Shrinkage Test, Vertical Flame Propagation and Smoke Test. The entire testing process is extensive to ensure the quality and reliability of the H1Z2Z2-K solar cable.

Solar Cable Sizing

H1Z2Z2-K cable size is critical to all solar systems. If the cable fails to meet the demand, there is a risk of overheating, blown fuses, or worst-case fire. No matter what kind of solar power system you're setting up, cable size is critical.

You can always get a bigger and longer cable than you need, but never smaller. There are two factors to consider, the rating of the solar panel and the distance between the panel and the load. The higher the watt panel capacity, the thicker the cable required. The farther the distance between the panel and the load, the longer and thicker the cable.

Cables keep certain energy losses to a minimum as power travels from the panel to the inverter. The thicker the cable, the better. Other factors to consider are as follows.

Protection: Cables must be protected to prevent animals from tearing the casing and exposing the wires.

Short-circuit resistance: High-quality solar cables are short-circuit resistant.

Fireproof: Look for solar cables that can operate at high temperatures without catching fire.

Chemical Resistance: Most cables offer some form of protection against acids and other chemicals.

Durability: The more durable the cable, the better.

Temperature Operating Range: Solar cables are designed to operate within a specific temperature range. Find someone who can handle extreme cold and heat.

Precautions For Using Solar Cables

H1Z2Z2-K solar cables are reliable throughout the life of the solar PV system as they have a lifespan of over 25 years with normal use and proper installation. Here are some installation tips we've collected to ensure good solar cable life:

  • Avoid installation bundles with a large number of cables, as this may increase the ambient temperature of the cables and cause derating.

  • Avoid fully exposing the cables to the weather and lay them haphazardly or sideways.

  • Avoid running cables in rain gutters.

  • Watch out for pinch points or cables caught on sharp edges to prevent damage to the jacket or insulation.

  • Please observe the minimum cable bending radius. For example, please do not install the solar cable in a tight loop as it may exceed the bend radius.
